Warbaron Excerpt #2

A familiar voice spoke. “What are you doing down here? Haven’t you heard about the gang violence?”

It was Warbaron Aeric.

“What’s up Aeric—I mean Warbaron?”

Aeric signaled for a glass. “I saw how you took out the gang. Nicely done. I couldn’t have done better. Your father couldn’t have either.”

Groaning, Tenner put his head on the cool steel table. “That again Aeric? It’s been months and you only want to talk about the past, as usual.”

Aeric took the glass from the bartender, ignoring the man’s frown as he waved him off without paying. “The past is the key to future. It’s the code that unlocks the mystery of the now.”

“Everybody’s a philosopher when they has nothing better to do.”

Aeric downed his glass of…Tenner didn’t know what it was. But by the way it fizzled and bubbled, it was far less tame than hunnic. Aeric gasped appreciatively as the fiery touch of the liquid burned through his veins. “Well said, Tenner.”

“Did you come here for any other reason than to make conversation? It brings back old times.”

Aeric unconsciously touched the gray streaks in his hair. “You don’t know the meaning of old times.”
